Baby Muesli Cereal
Developed sometime during the 1900s by Maximilian Bircher-Brenner, a Swiss physician.
Bircher Muesli is a delicious overnight muesli recipe…
…that not only tastes divine but is laden with nutrients and vitamins too!
If you are looking for a baby muesli cereal recipe then this is the one because it is easy to make and your baby is surely going to like its taste.
Also, this recipe is not just suitable for babies, it is also suitable for kids, teenagers and adults alike!
Unlike its instant counterpart, this recipe calls for the use of more fruits than oats.
Bircher muesli is an overnight recipe, it calls for the use of raw oats that have to be soaked overnight.
However, you can also have the recipe made in the morning itself, in that case you will have to give the oats a soak time of sixty minutes minimum.
However, it is better to follow the traditional recipe and soak the oats overnight so that they become soft, full-bodied and flavorful.
Bircher muesli is a healthy recipe and it is absolutely beneficial for the body because it provides the body with all the essential nutrients and vitamins.
It is a perfect breakfast item that can keep your baby charged and energetic the entire day.
Moreover, since this recipe calls for overnight preparation therefore it does not matter even if you wake up late because there are no further preparations involved, you just need to serve them and eat straightaway!
Bircher muesli is one of the most delicious things to consume in the morning.
It is also a perfect substitute for the sugar-laden cereals for kids.
The best part is that you won’t need to do a lot of convincing because kids tend to be a huge fan of these overnight oats.
Once prepared, Bircher muesli has to be kept in the refrigerator and it can be stored for up to three days.
This recipe is better for summertime than it is for wintertime because it has to be served cold.
The recipe for making the classic Bircher muesli would be as follows
- 200 grams rolled oats
- 400 grams apple juice
- 1 large apple
- 100 grams plain yoghurt
- In a large bowl, pour in the juice and the oats and mix well.
- Let the oats soak in the juice overnight by keeping the bowl inside the refrigerator.
In the morning when you are ready to consume the muesli, simply grate the apple and add it to the soaked oats. Mix in the yoghurt and combine the ingredients well.
Spoon the muesli out and serve
It is as simple as that! Making the traditional or classic Bircher muesli is very easy, which is why it is one of the top baby muesli cereal recipes.
Of course, you don’t always have to follow this recipe, you can always add spices and other fruits in order to give the classic recipe a new twist.
Some of the top recommended “add-ons” to this classic recipe would be raisins, hazelnuts, strawberries, blueberries, etc.
You can also top off the recipe with fresh fruits, dried fruits, toasted desiccated coconut or nuts for an added crunch.
An alternative way of making the Bircher muesli would be to soak it in milk instead of fruit juice, this gives it a different taste altogether!
You can also combine the two, i.e. use both fruit juice and milk together.
Now, it does not matter what kind of milk you add to the recipe because you can use any kind, be it cow milk, soy milk or almond milk!
Although the classic recipe does not call for the use of an additional sweetener, if you find the recipe to be a bit bland then you can add honey to sweeten it more.
You can also add in black chia seeds, pepitas and sunflower seeds to your recipe if you like them.
Remember, the more ingredients you add to the Baby muesli recipe, the more nutritious and healthy.
Some people also prefer to add a dash of cinnamon powder to their Bircher muesli in order to give it more flavor.
